The new Mixtrack Pro 3 is a little longer than the Mixtrack Pro 2 and a little more shallow (depth wise) It weighs around 1.9kg.
Its dimensions are:
depth x width x height:
23.2 cm x 55 cm x 3 cm (9.1" x 21.7" x 1.2")
weight: 1.9 kg (4.1 lbs.)
There have been quite a few changes on this model over its previous iteration, one welcome change is the repositioning of the Pad set from the top of the unit to the bottom, this helps avoid the accidental movement of the jog wheel while in the mix. Also Numark have seen fit to add VU meters to this unit, making it one only units in its class to have this feature.
The Layout is now closer to industry standard units. Cue pads are now located at the bottom of the unit and there's an effects section up top.
The Numark MixtrackPro 3 now features a new multifunction touch-strip interface, you can use this to apply effects or to scroll through the track, similar to the Numark NS7 II & Kontrol X1.
There is a new touch-strip is silver with a slightly rough finish.
The RGB pads have been moved to the bottom of the unit, they are smaller than the pads on the Mixtrack Pro but are very responsive.
The pads have a structure to them, there are 8 pads but they can't be all used to store cue points. The top row of pads have different modes: Auto Loop Mode, Manual Loop Mode and Sample Mode. Mode selection requires one to hold down the Pad Mode button and press one of the upper pads. There's an LED indicator under the pad to indicate the mode currently selected. The bottom row of pads are the cue pads.
The rear of unit has a USB 2.0 connection and a pair of RCA Line out connectors' (L + R) great for connecting to an amplifier or powered / active speakers.
The headphone and microphone inputs have been moved to the front of the unit , again bringing the layout of the unit into a more industry standart setup. There are pair of Headphone outputs, one is a 1/4" connection and the other is a 1/8"
Their volume is controlled using the cue gain knob on the front panel.
The front of the unit also houses a 1/4" microphone jack and a mic-gain knob.
The platters have been upgraded and are now capacitive, metal touch-sensitive wheels. These are chunkier and than the previous models, the led light strip has been moved off the actual platter onto the actual console.
The Pitch faders are long (100mm) they are firm and good for making subtle adjustments to the pitch and tempo of the track. Faders for the individual channels are loose enough for quick movement. They are good quality faders with very little side to side movement. The crossfader is quite loose and is ideal for scratch mixing.
The Mixtrack Pro 3 is a great introduction into the DJ world and great fun for seasoned veterans, the unit has enough new features to prepare a beginner for the new technologies in the DJ/PA world, the same feature spread allows a professional to use it for scratchpad mixing or practice ideas without feeling that too many features are missing from their main rig!
There will be a more in depth review with VerSus tests coming soon, So watch this space!
